Dr. Marla Somova

I have over 25 years of experience working with adults (age 18+) on issues of identity, relationships, and family concerns, as well as stress, anxiety, depression, and ADHD. I have extensive experience working with college students and the particular challenges of young adulthood. I approach psychotherapy as a collaborative endeavor, and I believe that understanding the past is important in helping you make changes in the present. I look forward to helping you work towards your goals! I am PSYPACT authorized. In addition to my practice, I am an Adjunct Professor of Psychology and Counseling at Carlow University.

My areas of specialty include: relational/interpersonal concerns; depression/ dysthymia; anxiety spectrum; self-esteem/self-acceptance; college adjustment; grief; substance use/misuse; health-behavior change/coping with medical diagnoses; family of origin issues; LGBTQ identity/relationships; developmental concerns of early adulthood; ADHD.

I follow a Humanistic, Relational Psychodynamic approach with focus on helping clients increase understanding and awareness of their emotions, experiences, and relational patterns. I also have training in cognitive-behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based approaches, and can assist clients with skill development and behavior change within these modalities.
